Client: National Assembly for Wales
Materials Supplied: Lime Plasters, Natural Paint
We were pleased to be working with R and M Williams in supplying the lime plasters and natural paints for the interiors of the Pierhead - one of Wales' most iconic buildings!
The Pierhead Building is a central and especially important building to the historical and visual dockscape of Cardiff. It is a prominent building by way of its location, use of red brick and terracotta and intricate architectural detail, such as gargoyles, a clock tower and a relief featuring coats of arms, a train, ship and motto. It is an exceptional Victorian building reflecting the confidence of the period in its flamboyant architectural detail of the Medieval Gothic and French Renaissance styles.
The refurbishment of Pierhead was overseen by Powell Dobson Architects, it was part of the National Assembly for Wales Commission. A complete electrical services replacement was undertaken with the introduction of the necessary IT data trunking facilities.
As Pierhead is a Grade I Listed building the introduction of the aforementioned services and redecoration was handled in a very sensitive manner and in conjunction and consultation with CADW.
