The Lost Arc – Rhayader

Background
The Lost Arc was originally a Tannery on the site of Rhayder Castle. Built in 1830,

it was taken over in 1899 by Henery Batten of Church Street, but by this time the

leather boom was over. It has been purchased multiple times since where modifications

have been made due to a fire and change of use.

The uses for this building have changed dramatically since it was built, ranging from a

Tannery, cinema, shooting range and drill hall, used by an engineering company and

a supermarket!

The Carter Family, have now taken over this fantastic space with the intention of taking

it back to its musical roots. The main hall will be re-established as a music venue and cinema,

with niche films being shown the old fashioned way: food first and a film with an intermission

allowing comfort breaks. The bar will be open and ice-cream will be on sale. There are also

plans to open a small café. The smaller areas are also going to be used for practise areas,

classes, and will also be available for private hire. The old shooting range will be a

showcase for local art. There will also be a recording studio within the site! 

Ty-Mawr is delighted to be supplying Celenit Wood Wool Boards for the internal walls

for this project. These Wood Wool Boards have been used in buildings for many decades

and have proved to be a very popular product as a lime carrier over the time in which

we have been promoting and selling them for use with our products. 

We have also supplied Thermafleece Cosywool Insulation and Hemp plaster. Our Thermafleece

product range - the only fully British sourced and manufactured natural wool insulation range.

All of these products have excellent technical properties and are highly suitable for old buildings for loft,

wall, roof and interfloor insulation (as they also actively manage moisture and so help to regulate humidity);

they are also suitable for ecological new builds because of their excellent environmental credentials.

Ty-Mawr Thermafleece is made exclusively for us with Welsh sheep’s wool helping in a small way to support

our rural economy and way of life as well as minimising road miles.

Ty Mawr also offered technical advice on how to remove the bitumen on the external walls and a suitable paint

to repaint the wall with. We advised to sand-blast the wall to remove the bitumen (as shown in the pictures). 

That was done a few weeks back to fantastic results, and is now awaiting repointing.
