The Emergency Campaign - The major problem facing the Cathedral authorities was the very poor state of the Cathedral roof. The Cathedral authorities had been aware of the problem for some time and over the years some running repairs had been made. However, because of a lack of funds, these repairs could only be remedial. The condition of the roof continued to deteriorate and reached the point where the whole roof needed to be totally replaced and restored if the Cathedral was to function normally in future.
Ty-Mawr’s internal silicate paint range was chosen to re-decorate the plaster panels between the medieval roof trusses after the conservation work to the roof had been completed.
The pure mineral paint, known as INSIL, is as breathable as a limewash but it has 4% artificial resin which helps it to bond on difficult surfaces e.g. where an old emulsion may have been used. This paint is therefore highly popular for the internal walls of churches that have had other paints on in the past but where you wish to maximise breathability.
