Finishes - Installing timber flooring on a Limecrete floor?

Timber flooring can be used over a limecrete however because timber is very moisture sensitive the main consideration is to ensure the limecrete has dried sufficiently before installing the timber boards. Typically 3 months drying is required in good conditions to ensure the Limecrete moisture content is low enough to not affect the timber flooring see - How to know if Limecrete is dry?, all floor boards should be acclimatized to the room conditions as per manufacturers recommendations prior to installation.

Installing on battens

Once the limecrete has dried, timber battens are fixed to the limecrete using plugs and screws, levelling the battens if necessary. When the floorboards have acclimatised to the room conditions they can be fixed to the battens as normal. This approach is not ideal when underfloor heating is installed because there is increased thermal resistance and the floor boards are not in direct contact with the Limecrete surface, which will slow down the response time of the heating system.

Floating timber floor

When laying a floating timber floor, the subsurface will need to be laid accurately with tight tolerances as any discrepancies in level will affect the final surface of the timber finish. The flooring can then be laid following manufacturers guidelines for installation on a concrete slab.
