Finishes - Installing stone or quarry tiles on a Limecrete floor

Bethany Evans Posted this on 26 Mar 2024

Natural Stone tiles and Quarry tiles are two of the best finishes for a Limecrete floor as they allow the use of a lime based adhesive which maintains the breathability. These tiles are usually thinner than flagstones (around 8-40mm) and importantly they should have a consistent thickness within 1-2mm as the tile adhesive we recommend can only be used in relatively thin depths. The lime adhesive we recommend would be the Adhere Cal which should be applied with a notched trowel in a 6-10mm bed.

Caveat: Some very hard or non-porous tiles (for example marble or travertine) may have issues bonding with the lime adhesive Adhere Cal due to lack of physical key and porosity, if using these types of stone it may be necessary to use a conventional tile adhesive: Installing porcelain or ceramic tiles on a Limecrete floor
