Design - Reinforcement

The limecrete slab is reinforced with screed fibres to help minimise shrinkage as the slab dries and increase the flexural strength, there is not normally a requirement for additional reinforcement in the form of a steel mesh or rebar to be added to the limecrete for a domestic floor. If your project has additional loading requirements then a structural engineer may request the addition of a steel reinforcement when necessary. Due to the higher porosity and amount of moisture the limecrete can absorb, we recommend the use of stainless-steel reinforcement to remove the risk of corrosion occurring. The reinforcement should have a minimum cover of limecrete above and below to ensure it is performing as intended which will be specified by the structural engineer.
