Colours:
Above are some of the colours available for the following St. Astier ready mixed mortars: ECOMORTAR, MONO ST. ASTIER, MONOCROMEX and THERMOCROMEX. This range of colours is by no means exhaustive. Custom Colours can be Made to Order. To obtain a colour swatch of any of the colours above, please contact us on 01874 611350. MIXING
- Mix for 4 to 5 minutes with a whisk mixer (450 to 500 rpm).
- High-speed mixers (more than 500 rpm) are not recommended as they can over-mix the product and modify its performance.
- Manual mixing is not recommended.
WATER ADDITION
- Granulometry TF : 4 to 4,5 litres per 25 kg bag.
- TF : 0-1,3mm (80 % passing sieve 0,8 mm)
WORKING TEMPERATURE
Not below 8°C or above 30°C. Dampen the substrates the day before and prior to application, allow the surface water to be reabsorbed. Avoid rapid drying due to high temperatures and/ or strong winds by covering and curing with a light water mist as necessary. Protect wet mortars from frost for at least 10 days after application. Reseal open bags as soon as possible.
PREPARATION OF THE SUBSTRATE
- The substrate must be in good condition, clean and dust free.
- On existing renders, all paint, organic material and synthetic skins must be removed and any cracks and/or hollow spaces should be treated.
- Soluble salts should also be treated before the finishing coat is applied. Allow sufficient drying time for any repairs made.
- Dampen the wall the day before.
- Check on the day of application whether the substrate is still sufficiently damp and, if necessary, dampen one hour before application.
- The substrate must be level but sufficiently rough to ensure good adhesion.
APPLICATION
- Manually with trowel
- Mechanically with a render gun
POSSIBLE FINISHES
Scratched finish
- Apply a layer of 12 to 15 mm, lay flat and allow to cure for 2 to 6 hours (drying time may vary depending on absorption, thickness, finish and weather conditions). Scratch with a pin float (devil float), once it’s dry and brush with a soft brush.
Floated finish
- Apply a layer of 10 mm, smooth and level and allow to cure for 2 to 4 hours. Float with a wood/plastic/sponge float. Once dry, brush with a soft brush if necessary.
Smooth finish
- Apply a layer of 5 to 8 mm maximum, level and allow to set for 2 to 4 hours depending on weather conditions.
- Scratch with a pin float ( devil float)
- Immediately trowel with a damp sponge trowel, applying light pressure, this will leave a layer of «milk of lime».
- Then immediately pass an iron float
- NOTE: The finished appearance of the same colour reference is lighter with a smooth finish than with a rough finish.
